All resident boaters in Canada who use a VHF radio are required to have a federally issued Maritime Restricted Radio Operators’ Certificate – (ROC-M).This is often referred to as a VHF Certificate.Capilano Squadron’s one day course includes training on the use of Maritime radios equipped with Digital Selective Calling (DSC).It includes basic radio procedures, the phonetic alphabet and regulations for use.On successful completion of the examination you will earn your ROC-M, which will be good for life.
Boaters who gained their ROC-M before DSC was an integral function in VHF radios are encouraged to attend for a refresher and obtain a DSC endorsement to their ROC-M.
The minimum age for students is 12 years.
The course Saturday date is firm (9:30am -4pm) but availability of space for the exam the following Tuesday evening is not yet confirmed so may be subject to change. The exam is normally held the following Tuesday evening to allow participants time for review and practice their skill of using the phonetic alphabet.
Course fees are $115.00. A discounted cost of $80.00 is available to CPS members. (Members will need to register their email address and password to obtain the discount)
Please note fees include training materials but does not include the cost of catering available from the Club's food services.
